Overview
This node integrates with SerpApi's Google Trends Trending Now API to fetch real-time trending search topics from Google Trends. It allows users to specify a geographic location and various filters to retrieve the most current trending searches relevant to that area. This node is useful for marketers, content creators, analysts, and developers who want to monitor trending topics dynamically for insights, content ideation, or data analysis.
Practical examples include:
- Tracking trending news or topics in a specific country or region.
- Filtering trends by category such as Sports, Technology, or Entertainment.
- Retrieving only currently active trends to focus on hot topics.
- Fetching trends in different languages to support multilingual content strategies.
Properties
| Name | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Location (geo) | Defines the geographic location for the trending search results. Defaults to "US". Supported values correspond to locations recognized by Google Trends. Full list here. |
| Additional Fields | A collection of optional parameters to refine the query: |
| - Hours (hours) | Number of past hours to retrieve results for (e.g., 24). |
| - Category Id (category_id) | Filter results by a specific category such as Autos and Vehicles, Beauty and Fashion, Business and Finance, etc. Categories are identified by numeric IDs. |
| - Only Active (only_active) | Boolean flag to include only trends that are currently active. |
| - Language (hl) | Language code to use for the search results (e.g., en for English, es for Spanish). Many language options are available. |
| - Date (date) | Date of the results to retrieve in yyyymmdd format (e.g., 20251015). Defaults to the current day. |
| - Category (cat) | Category filter usable only when frequency is set to realtime. Options include All categories, Business, Entertainment, Health, Sci/Tech, Sports, Top stories. |
| - Next Page Token (next_page_token) | Token to retrieve the next page of results, applicable only when frequency is realtime. |
| - Disable Caching (no_cache) | Boolean to force fetching new results instead of using cached ones. Cache expires after 1 hour. Cached searches do not count towards monthly limits. Should not be used with async. |
| - Async (async) | Boolean to perform the search asynchronously. If true, results must be retrieved later via Search Archive API. Should not be used with no_cache or on accounts with Ludicrous Speed enabled. |
| - ZeroTrace Mode (zero_trace) | Enterprise-only boolean to skip storing search parameters and metadata on SerpApi servers for privacy. May complicate debugging. |
| - Output (output) | Defines output format: JSON (default) for structured data or html for raw HTML response. |
| - JSON Restrictor (json_restrictor) | Restricts fields returned in the JSON response, e.g., limiting to certain fields of top organic results. |
Output
The node outputs a JSON object containing the trending search data retrieved from SerpApi's Google Trends Trending Now endpoint. The structure includes details about trending topics such as titles, URLs, timestamps, and other metadata depending on the query parameters.
If the output format is set to html, the raw HTML content of the search results page is returned instead.
No binary data output is involved in this node.
Dependencies
- Requires an active SerpApi account with a valid API key credential configured in n8n.
- Internet access to call SerpApi endpoints.
- No additional external dependencies beyond the SerpApi service.
Troubleshooting
Common issues:
- Invalid or missing API key credential will cause authentication errors.
- Using incompatible parameter combinations, such as
asyncwithno_cache, may result in errors. - Providing unsupported or incorrect geo location codes or date formats can lead to empty or error responses.
- Exceeding API rate limits or quota may cause request failures.
Error messages:
- Authentication errors typically indicate invalid or missing API credentials; verify your API key setup.
- Parameter validation errors suggest incorrect input values; check property values against allowed options.
- Network or timeout errors may require checking internet connectivity or retrying later.
